A GROUP of fathers’ rights campaigners, including men dressed as Batman and Robin, descended on the Willow Man near Bridgwater this afternoon.

The group, who say they were part of the New Fathers 4 Justice group, arrived at the iconic statue off the M5 motorway at around 2pm today.

The campaigners, who say they want greater rights for fathers to see their children, attempted to peg a 10ft St George’s flag near the Willow Man with the words Vote English written on it, a reference to their support for the English Democrats political party. A spokesman for the group said the man dressed as Batman left the scene after a traffic officer arrived but it was not known what had happened to the man dressed as Robin.

Tiger Woods's estranged wife Elin has told friends that she has agreed a £185 million divorce settlement, according to a newspaper report. She also stopped the iconic golfer from seeing his two children over Christmas.

The News of the World claims the 30-year-old Swede told friends about the settlement, reportedly laughing as she described it as a "$300 million Christmas present" from the superstar golfer.

Since news of Woods's serial philandering broke late last year, the world number one has been at the centre of a media storm that has seen 18 women claim to have had relationships with him.

Rumours of a possible divorce have been circulating ever since, and the News of the World's source claimed that Elin Woods is determined to split up with her husband for good: "She's more focused than ever about moving on with her life," the source was quoted as saying.

The source also added that Elin has begged the world number one to seek professional help over his fragile mental state, and refused to let him see his children over Christmas as he was "not stable enough".

Tiger has also reportedly stopped communicating with several of his closest aides, and is apparently considering extending his break from the game until 2012.

'Hypocrite' Ed Balls admits marriage IS better for children (but won't back tax breaks to encourage it)

Ed Balls faced charges of hypocrisy last night after admitting that marriage was 'better' for children - but refusing to back tax breaks to encourage it.
In a major pre-election U-turn the Schools Secretary acknowledged that Labour had done too little to support the traditional family unit.
He said a Green Paper next month would see his department 'changing the direction and face of family policy'.
But he made it clear that it would stop short of introducing tax breaks to encourage marriage. Instead it will talk about the importance of 'stable and lasting relationships between parents'.
Asked about his own marriage to Work and Pensions Secretary Yvette Cooper, Mr "NO" Balls indicated that he believed marriage was a better basis for family life than co-habiting or single parenthood - directly contradicting his previous statements on the subject.He said: 'Yvette and I are married. I personally think it is better but I certainly would not say that to other people.'

His comments come just weeks after a public spat with David Cameron. The Tory leader accused Labour of a ' pathological' opposition to supporting marriage and claimed that Mr Balls saw it as an 'irrelevance' to family life.
At the time Mr Balls rejected the charge, but refused to acknowledge that marriage was a better basis for family life.
He said: 'I'm not willing to say to the many different types of families around the country that they are second class if are not married.' David Willetts, Tory spokesman for the family, said Mr Balls's 'extraordinary' conversion smacked of hypocrisy, and called on him to back his words with policies that would promote marriage.
Mr Willetts said: 'This is a big change in Labour's rhetoric but it needs to be backed up with proper policy. It seems Ed Balls has at last woken up to the fact that evidence shows most people, from all backgrounds, aspire to get married, and it helps create a stable environment for children.
'The challenge for Ed Balls is to reverse the damage Labour has done. For example, they have removed the recognition of marriage in the tax system as part of their failure to value the relationship between partheyents. Most developed countries recognise marriage in the tax system and it is time for us to rejoin them.'
Since 1997 Labour has targeted resources at children rather than families to avoid being seen as judgmental. Critics claim the policy has offered a 'perverse' financial incentive for couples to split up.
In an interview yesterday Mr Balls acknowledged that Labour had put too little emphasis to the benefits of stable family life. He said: 'Because we knew it was complicated we ended up not talking about families and talking about children instead.
'While supporting children is very important, adult relationshipsare very important too.' The Green Paper is expected to contain a number of minor measures including more funding for marriage guidance.
Compulsory sex and relationship lessons will teach children as young as seven about 'the nature and importance of marriage and stable relationships for family life and bringing up children'.
But Labour opposes Tory plans to offer a £20-a-week tax break to married couples, claiming they would discriminate against children of single or cohabiting parents.

Judge appeals for Christmas reunion for fathers and daughters

NEW F4J SAY "The Judge should tell the Grandmother to give contact...not "urge". These judges pander to the want of the Mother or in this case the Mother's Mother. The dad has legal parental reponsibility ( as he was married) and is said to be a loving dad.....so why can't dad have custody of his own kids???

This is typical of the biasness of the family court that prejudices against dads from seeing their kids. All too often Judges don't enforce court orders in case it upsets Mum. Well, what about the child?? Growing up without seeing their Father will have a detrimental afffect on the childs mental state etc....which can lead to being 40% more likely to have mental health problems, more likely to use drugs, alcoholism, teenage suicide, general crime and antisocial behaviour etc...
That is why, year on year the UK is at the bottom of the UNICEF report (out of 30 countries) for bringing up children."
It's an outrage.....especially at this time of year.

A family court judge has pleaded for a Christmas reunion between a devoted dad and his two young daughters whose mother died after a three-year fight against cancer.
Lord Justice Ward said the case was one of the most heart-rending he had ever come across in his 21 years as a judge.
The girls, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have only seen their father once in the past year and have, in effect, been orphans since their mother's death, he told London's Civil Appeal Court.
Since the man split from his wife 10 years ago and the girls went to live with her, the judge said there had been 40 or so court hearings in a bid to map out the children's future.
But contact between them and their father broke down and, after the mother's "horrible" death from cancer, they moved to live with their 75-year-old grandmother in the Bristol area.
A Bristol County Court judge ordered at the end of last year that the father should have contact with the girls at Easter, in summer and at Christmas. But he has only seen his children once since then.
The father has no means of contacting the grandmother and has no idea where she lives with his children.
He brought a fresh application for contact, which was refused at Bristol County Court in September this year.
The father, dressed in a suit, appeared at the Civil Appeal Court in a bid to win permission to appeal against that refusal – but Lord Justice Ward told him his application was "doomed".
The judge urged the grandmother to let the father see his daughters at Christmas. He said if that did not happen, the dad could come back to court and make yet another contact application.
